Abundant in rivers, burns, fresh and salt water lochs and almost surrounded by the Atlantic, you will never be far away from a great fishing experience – salmon and trout in the rivers, brown trout and course fishing in the lochans and a wide range of sea fishing from shore and boat.

A number of local businesses provide fishing equipment, boat hire and boat trips or can even take you out for the day for that extra special experience.

While fishing from the sea is free, a number of our lochs and rivers are managed by the local landowners and therefore you may need a permit so it’s always best to check.  The main points of contact for each area are below:

The River Gour offers a diverse range of fishing options, from the estuary fishing at the river mouth, to deeper pools upriver and a shallow loch.  The use of a rowing boat on the loch is included and the river is yours to fish from mouth to source!

In season, daily permits can be purchased from Ardgour Stores (01855 841 227)
or can be booked online from Ardgour Estate -

The Strontian Angling Association is responsible for the fishing rights on the rivers Strontian, Polloch & Carnoch. All of these rivers have a number of accessible pools. Fishing is also available on Loch Doilet, a medium sized loch situated in the lower end of Glen Hurich in an attractive quiet mountain setting, fishing here is by boat only.

The fishing season runs from the 1st June to the 30th September. Salmon, Sea-Trout and Brown Trout are to be found and catch and release is currently in operation.

Permits for all fishing, boat hire, advance bookings and information are available from Mr Peter Madden, 01967 402265 or Mr A MacIntyre, 01967 402424. Permits are available from Strontian Post Office and Strontian Village Shop.
