Ardslignish view over Loch Sunartrain over Loch Sunart

From Laga bay to Ardslignish

When you stay in this area of Ardnamurchan you have the very best of both worlds as you will be roughly halfway along the peninsula and in the midst of some of the best views of Loch Sunart to the south and Ben Laga and the Glenborrodale hills to the north.

This tranquil location is home to pine marten, otters, seals, golden eagles, herons and the occasional sighting of the magnificent white tailed sea eagle.  Much of the area is made up of ancient mixed woodlands, which in the springtime offer shelter to carpets of primroses and bluebells.  The summer leaves will inspire an artist to use every green imaginable in his pallet giving way to vibrant autumn colours and the sound of the red deer stags rutting.  For the wild food gatherer, brambles (blackberries) and hazel nuts are generally plentiful along the roadside.  But some would say that winter is the best time of the year, the road is quieter but always well gritted, the pace of life slower and the skeletal trees let you see the contours of the land clearly defined and on a clear night the celestial views are breath taking.

The Nadurra Centre provides an invaluable introduction to the natural world of Ardnamurchan.  The ‘Living Building Experience’ is designed to bring visitors closer to nature and fuel their desire to go out and discover its riches for themselves.  Books, gifts, outdoor clothing and the tearoom offering meals and home baking during the day make this a pleasant walking destination.

Ardnamurchan Charters offers WiSe accredited marine wildlife trips, some within Loch Sunart; some further a field with experienced and knowledgeable skipper and crew.  Taking small groups, with time to stop, watch, enjoy and photograph without disturbing the wildlife, minki whales, dolphins, porpoises, basking sharks, puffins and a myriad of seabirds.  Go fishing, island hopping or hire your own self-drive boat.

With so much to see and do, the question is where to stay to take it all in…this area boasts all manner of self catering properties from the imposing red sandstone Glenborrodale Castle sleeping 32 to quirky, unique properties sleeping just 2. Most have stunning views over Loch Sunart, some are STB Quality Assured and prices range to suit all pockets……A part of Ardnamurchan not to be missed.
